International Mass 2015
St John Paul II Memorial
A priest who was ordained in Heaton Park by Pope Saint John Paul II has unveiled and blessed a new permanent memorial in Our Lady of Grace church, Prestwich. Fr Kevin Foulkes is now parish priest of Our Lady’s, Haigh, near Wigan. Unveiling the memorial, he recalled how Pope John Paul had administered all seven sacraments during his British visit, including the ordination of priests in Heaton Park on 31 May 1982. The memorial carries a plaque showing Pope John Paul with the inscription shown on the attached picture.

On Sunday 20 November, the 11am Mass for the Feast of Christ the King was a truly international celebration. The opening hymn set the tone: “Let us build a house … All are welcome in this place.” Readings and prayers were said in English, Greek, Polish, Spanish, Shona, Malayalam, Italian, German, French and Irish, with the Creed sung in Latin.
Zimbabweans living in and near Manchester regularly celebrate Mass at Our Lady of Grace. They came on Sunday with choir and drums. Italians in national costume brought up the gifts. After Communion Indian parishioners sang hymns in Malayalam.
Festivities continued in the parish hall after Mass. People had brought food of their own countries to be shared by all. A display of Indian dancing rounded off a memorable celebration.
Advent Wreath Making
Jesus, light of the world, is coming and together today we the parishioners of Our Lady of Grace started out Christmas preparations by making our Advent wreaths. Our lighted candles will symbolise the light of Jesus' coming through out the four weeks of Advent. The floral art ladies prepared us well providing an array of green foliage, colourful candles and baubles and plenty of support. We had fun creating our masterpieces whilst enjoying cupcakes and mince pies. Most of all we enjoyed the community of friends old and new preparing together for Christ's coming. There was laughter as Fr. Allen blessed our wreaths and blessed us abundantly too.
